my solara is trying to kill me

my solara is trying to kill me

Postby Missay » Sun Feb 02, 2003 6:25 pm

yea, i'm convinced my solara is trying to kill me.

maybe it was ice, but coming down a little hill, going pretty slow, i put the brake on gently (no slamming or sudden stopping or short stopping distance) and the ABS kicked in so hard i lost control of the steering and braking and slid right out into the intersecting street past the stop sign. i swear god was looking out for me cause there were no cars coming in either direction and there usually are!

i'm petrified to drive my car now..i managed to make it to work that morning driving super slow, although it felt like my steering was going out, especially when i took left hand turns. i called my mechanic and he looked at the car while i was in work and...of course....he said nothing was wrong w/ it and i was crazy.

the night before i hit a KILLER pot hole and when i took the next left hand turn i thought my tire had blown out, but when i got outta the car, all 4 tires where fine. but the next left hand turn i took it felt like i was sliding on ice (it was raining..but still) and when i drive straight ahead, i felt like the car was floating and the steering wheel is wicked loose.

i have to run an errand tonight, but i'm afraid to drive my car..so i think i'm gonna skip that one. i have visions of stopping at a red light and rear ending the person in front of me, or taking a turn, having the steering line snap and hitting god knows what.

MY SOLARA IS TRYING TO KILL ME! :evilbat:

Try some snow tires (winter tires) if the temperature drops below 0

Another benefit of snow tires is that they are a cold weather rubber.

Melissa glad to hear that you're alright. Do you think that it could still be a problem from your accident. I'd definately get it checked out more

thanks! omg..i was this close to getting into another accident there. phew!

ok..i finally got the nerve up to drive the car for that errand (damn cvs was closed :x ) and it seemed to be ok. only thing is, when i drive straight ahead the steering still seems funny. i can't put my finger on what it is, but i'm thinking that when i hit that pot hole, something got messed up..cause it was fine up to then.

maybe i need a front alignment?

Alignment is possible, you might have bent a rim. Maybe the tire is just unbalanced.

i am glad you are ok and I believe your front tire thread is quite low that cause hydroplane.

That will make you feel floating while you driving. and when you were braking, your tires are skipping (because of low thread) and the ABS sensor would start kick in, grip and release and grip....

Also, when you hit the killer pot hole, the chance is you bented your wheel. Also alightment is necessary after you hit the pot hole. About the left turn feeling, it could the rack & pinion is giving you problem. your mechanic might be a clown, you might want to get second opinion. good luck
