Replacing Brakes Question

Replacing Brakes Question

Postby SolDoubt » Fri May 19, 2006 10:18 pm

Hey all,

So I was changing the pads for the front rotors and there are suppose to be 4 bolts to loosen to get the job done right?

Well lets say it is :x ...

So the 2 bolts that hold the cylinder like thingy I took off for one side but I had trouble taking the bolts off the other side, so I just replaced the pads anyways cuz I could get to them without taking it out. Then I go to start the car and the breaks are real heavy/hard and the next thing I know the brake fluid blew everywhere. After it seemed fine, i guess the pressure got released (i hope). Was it because I didnt bleed the brakes ie. the cylinder thingy?
Dropped woohoo!

by that he means brake fluid blew everywhere under the hood.

and he's wondering if it happened because he didn't clamp the piston down

ahhhh thanks for the translation. :D
all i know is, if you're gonna change the pads, you have to make room for them at the caliper, which means you'd have to push the piston back into its bore. this, of course, would cause the brake fluid to rush back to the brake's Master Cylinder causing it to overflow.

As brake pads wear the fluid goes down because the pads have to be pressed more. So somebody must of put some more fluid in to level it out, when you put the new pads in the caliper has to go back more so the fluid goes back into the tank and possibly overflowing. But its not a problem just make sure you clean the paint etc.

Nope its fine, just make sure the correct amount of fluid is in there and clean any that went on the paint.
