Gen 1/1.5 5 Speed Availability / Swap

Postby Jesse Jericho » Tue Jul 25, 2006 8:09 pm

I'm looking at buying a Solara in the next month or so, and have a few questions.

First of all, how rare is the 5 speed transmission? I am in Toronto, Canada, and am having trouble finding one. I can come into the USA to get one if necessary...

On a related note, is the 5 speed transmission available from Toyota, or any other distributor? Anyone ever seen one being sold? Finally, any issues with doing a transmission swap, anyone done it?

Thanks, sorry if these are newb questions but I'm trying to get used to the forum and how its organized.

The swap isn't worth the money because they made the car in a 5spd, you just gotta find one.

FYI, I'm selling my 99 SE V6 black on black leather 5spd Solara soon. 85,xxx miles and running strong. It'd have to be shipped, but I'm just throwing that out there.

If you're looking for the 04-current with a 5spd and a V6, you won't find it, it was never made.

I'm about to head to bed, I have work in the morning.

Just some quick info on it. Clean carfax. It doesn't have many mods left on it, but does still have a cp-e intake (which retails at $489 (dunno what that equates to for canada) on www.cp-e.com where you can read about it as well). Has stock exhaust, had a TRD lip kit but that has been sold. I have clear corners and custom tinted taillights for it tha tI just took off but still have. It's got 15% tinted windows with llumar tint. Used to have nitrous on it that I only ran a few times with a 50 shot, and I still have the kit if you're interested, it ouran SRT-4s, 350z's and a lightly modded mustang GT with just that 50 shot and trapped at 97mph! Guys with the auto tranny have run 100 shots and only trapped 98. IT needs a new timing belt, which I have with a new water pump and camshaft and crankshaft seals. The clutch is the original clutch and is still fine for daily driving, but I would reocmmend if you plan on modding it with an SC or nitrous or somehting of the like to get a new one and upgrade. It also has new new NGK iridium spark plugs, and the oil has been changed every 3k miles since I've owned it with mobil 1 synthetic and toyota OEM filters. The interior is in GREAT shape for a near 8 year old car, nothing is broken inside, the only notable thing I'd say is about a 1" gash in the center console cover. It also has some SLE upgrade options such as 16" premium wheels, full sized spare, sunroof, and keyless entry and I think a couple more. I dunno if the regular SE's had power drivers seat and that stuff or not but it has that too. Not sure if it's the premium sound package but the speakers in the car are in great condition and sound excellent.

If you click my www under my sig it'll take you to a page about the car.

As for a price I'm still not 100% decided, but you can bluebook it to get a good idea.

Also, not sure if it makes a huge difference to you or not, but I've seen 2 other black/black leather 5 spd V6 solaras, one a 2000, and one a 2002. That's ebay, autotrader, this site, everywhere. I know one guy on here has the 2000, and the other I saw on autotrader, look around, ask people on here, you don't find em.

But I'm still in the process of setting it up to be sold, which may include me changing the timing belt and everything, and the removal of the intake depending on a few things. Like I said the car is pretty much back to 100% stock now, but it's a sweet car. Let me know if you're really interested and I'll talk with you tomorrow about it, I really need to get in bed for work.

That's right after I got it and put the taillights on. Those were the only un-stock thing about it then.

Another pic.

And one more.

Eh, I might as well have PMed you all that. I got carreid away, lol.

Image
That's the damage to it, the bumper is cracke din two spots as well. I hydroplaned on I-95 and spun around and hit a construction retaining wall, the back rear was the only part to hit it and the fram was not damaged, nor was anything other than the bumper from what I can really tell.

Yeah, so chris really needs sleep now.
