Bad Strut

Bad Strut

Postby Grnarowana » Fri Jul 28, 2006 11:07 am

The mechanic says I have a bad strut on the passenger side.

BTW, with the noise most of you were complaining about the rattling sound could be your strut! so check it out.

The mechanic showed me what was wrong when he put pressure on the front end and i saw the strut pop out on the passenger side like it was loose or something. However, I didn't fix the problem because I wanted to check which sturts are best for the solara and how much would it cost to fix.

I had this problem with this for like a year and put it off and the car still works fine.

ANy suggestions on new front struts?

sometimes the strut bearing has the rattle noise like its gonna fall out. I think thats what mine has, on the passenger side, and starting on the driver side.

it all depends on what you want.....do you want a stock ride ? do you plan on dropping it ? If you're going to stay stock...then go with Kyb struts. If you want a more than stock..go with Tokico. my .02

Suggestion

Go with Toyota OEM struts. Either through the dealership or through me for $200 for 4 struts and 4 springs. Jon.

Usualy if you hear rattling or clunking or knocking sound when going over road imperfections, your strut mounts could have gone bad and need to be replaced. or maybe a nut or bolt could be loose somewhere on the suspension.

Amen on the strut mounts. I've gone through 3 of them and I'm at 106K.

I"ve been running Tokicos on my 01 solara (dropped with Eibachs) for the for past 2 years.
So far so good, they're definitely stiffer than the stock ones.

I got mine for about $400 and another $400 to install and alignment.
