Doesn't sound bad for all that IMO - the Timing Belt and Water Pump alone could run the bulk of that I'd think...

Not Bad

Postby JMSinMaryland » Fri Jul 28, 2006 12:14 pm

Make sure that includes thermostat as well. If so good deal. For thermostat, water pump and timing belt a great deal is $500. If you need your brakes done as well that's it's a REAL fair deal. Jon.

Where do you live? Because I got the 90k done for $270 and the timing belt for $189 at Puente Hills Toyota (but then again my friend kinda hooked me up; if you're in the SoCal area I can try asking).

I'm wondering about this myself. My friend who bought my gen1 off me asked about the thermostat longevity. I gave her a blank look. lol

Suggestion

Postby JMSinMaryland » Sat Nov 11, 2006 2:04 pm

It's about saving time/headache/money if you get it done at the same time. If you wait for it to go bad you'll pay a lot more. Technically not all timing belts and water pump go bad at 90k, it might last you 100k or 120k or even longer. Most of us aren't willing to wait until they go up to find out they needed to be replaced because you never know where you'll be. I replaced my clutch when it started to slip because I didn't want to have to worry about how much longer it could last. Just my .02 cents. Jon.

My mechanic charged me 350.00 for the timing belt and water pump on my '96 camry, then we added both front axles, 4 spark plugs, an oil pump, changed the o'rings around the distributer and timing gasket, the belts and an oil change, that brought it to 850.00 cash.

He won't turn rotors any more. He'll replace them. Says it's not worth it to turn. Total cost for 2 front discs and the rotors was 220.00.

If that's any indication. Your getting a good deal, provided its good work..

If your timing belt goes it will most likely take your engine with it other thajn that you should be good.

I learned my lesson w/ timing belts. Yeah it could go another 15-20k but it could go tommorow. Just have to hope when it does break your in a convenient location. piece of mind..
