Slave Cylinder??

Slave Cylinder??

Hi all,

I can't even believe this, but I'm on the brink of having to have two clutches put in within 13,000 mi. of each other.

This chain out here (Dobb's) put in the last one, which went out with no notice. Now, this morning suddenly when I started the car, I thought smelled something burning, at first; but it went away. Right after I noticed I can't get into each gear smoothly.. When I got going, it was as if some of the gears simply weren't there anymore.. Then after I got back in the car this afternoon to drive it to the shop, the gears practically seemed normal again (all there and went in rather smoothly).

The place finally just called my back and said that he is leaning towards the clutch (which of course, is 1 month past warranty), but they cannot believe a clutch could go so fast. So he says the other possibility is the slave cylinder. He said they usually have a test they can run to see if one is needed, but with my car they aren't able to run the test? They want to first put a slave cylinder on it, and see if that fixes the problem.

Anyone have any thoughts on this, or have any idea how much this whole ordeal should run me?

I've got to know by 10 am tomorrow when the part arrives.

Thanks in advance for anything at all..

my clutch just went out to.... i replaced the clutch master cylinder which wasn't bad to replace, the clutch slave cylinder is easy to change as well... if you replace both, both parts should come out to be 150.

all you have to do to test the slave and master cylinder is have someone press in the clutch pedal and make sure its moving the clutch fork fully..

your shop must be stupid. If its not moving it enough would just be really hard to get into gear and drive, it wouldnt make it go out all of a sudden i dont think, see note 1.

Well, in case anyone cares to hear an update, here is what the issue wound-up being--

Apparently my pressure plate completely came apart, and I also took-out my slave cylinder.. They actually said they were very confused how something like that could have even happened.. They are going to replace both the pressure plate and the slave cylinder, and even put in a whole new clutch. The good news (if you can call it) is that they are only going to charge me for parts - and no labor (which would be $750.00 alone). The bad news is the parts will come to $550.00, so that is my bill.

I'm as confused as they are about how it could have happened.. It was completely fine, then I started it up the other morning, smelled something burning, couldn't shift right and had to take it in..

This sucks because for a '00 with only 75,000 k, this is my third major repair since purchase three years ago (brake job, clutch, this)..
