knock sensor question?

knock sensor question?

i know that this has been mentioned before, but can't someone come up with either a k/s relocation or just make a dummy k/s to satisfy the ecu.....before i get flammed, i know that there is a purpose for the k/s which is detecting detonation, but it seems like they always blow when you need your boost the most......just trying to work the brain! i work alot and don't have alot of time for my car to be down to tear the top of the engine apart and i was just pondering this on the way to work this morning!

knock

I would think that you could:

A: take the sensor out of the exhaust, mount it somewhere and plug the hole in your exhaust (A Bad Idea IMO)

B: Move the sensor a bit further downstream from it's current location. This would req. someone to tweak your exhaust for you.

I've heard about the knock problem before. I'm assuming you've been dyno tuned and your air/fuel ratio is good?

you could relocate them. A member has done it before. It satisfy your ecu but when it comes to running boost the risk is high. Relocating them is possible and has been done to the side of the block, But knocking of the engine wasnt retarded and issues are known to be ugly. Just get the GM knock sensor. It will retard your car alittle more since its biggerr and more sensitive and you wont get super from it but its better then relocation.

see i thought that the sc'er noise and engine noise really is what is blowing our k/s! as long as you take care of your car, then knocking shouldn't be an issue! i mean people are going to gm because they are not as sensitive as the oem......isn't that kinda like altering your k/s anyway? just being the devil's advocate...

are knock sensors just a microphone that when it gets loud frequency's it blows and breaks the connection to the ecu or when blown does it send a connection to the ecu...just pondering?

you are correct. me, Dats and a couple of other members had a long discussion on this in a thread long ago. It is like a microphone that once hears knock loud enough, will break and cut connection to the ECU. The OEM one is not as sensitive to knock, but is weaker and will go faster. The GM even though stronger (will take serious knocking but not permanently blow) is more sensitive and retard your timing more/more often then OEM.

so your k/s is sending a constant signal to the ecu and when it blows it ends that connection....right? or is it the opposite.....it send the ecu a signal when it blows? just brain storming....
