Ignition Problem?

Ignition Problem?

Postby Guest » Fri Mar 14, 2003 10:15 pm

I have a problem with my 2002 Solara. The car only has about 6000 miles on it, so it's relatively new. Well when I put the key in the ignition and start the engine for the first time, it works fine. The problem comes when I stop the car, and within a few minutes try to start it again. The car would make a grumbling noise and then start. The more I stop and start, the worse the sound gets. If I leave the car for a couple of hours, then the car starts fine again. Is this normal? Should I have it checked out by the dealership? Thanks for the help

I don't think it's normal... on occassion I'll have to stop the engine for a few mins to run into, say, 7-11 and when I restart the car, I don't hear any odd noises (My 02 is at 13k miles already).

The one thing we might need to know to further assist you is if you have the 4 cylinder or the v6 engine. fyi, mine is an i-4
1GR-FE ftw!

It would be best to have it checked out. Warranty is the greatest!

Thanks a lot for the help guys. I was also wondering, what kind of aftermarket changes break the warranty? Also, what steps would I take to get it taken care of by my local dealership? Oh, and my Solara is a SLE-V6 if that helps. Thanks :D

As long as you don't have any alteration of the emissions equipment or alteration of the factory ECU or wiring, you shouldn't have a problem.

Just go to your service department and explain exactly what symptoms you are experiencing. Should be straight forward from there.

This sounds very similar to the problem I am having with my Solara. Engine seems reluctant to start sometimes, don't think I was covering up the transponder in my key..

Taking it in for service Thurs

nah, aleath. the transponder's signal is pretty strong; even if you tape it up on your key, it'll still send the signal to your key sense module.

there's even aftermarket stand alone starter kill systems that let the user attach a "transponder" to their keychain. once the key is in the ignition, as long as the transponder is on the same keyring as the key, it'll send the signal to the module and allow the car to start.

I took it in last Thursday and they couldn't reproduce the problem. It doesn't do it a lot, so its really just an annoyance more than anything.

You know, I used to have the same problem with my old Cutlass. The damn thing would vapor lock on me after shutting it down. That was a huge motor that created tons of heat though. Any chance that your fuel line is too close to a heat source?
