Sludge

Sludge

Postby Sentinel » Fri Dec 08, 2006 12:17 pm

148,000 and my 1mz-fe succumbed to the sticky black death of sludge.

I put 4 quarts in the motor in 1500 miles (on a road trip: couldn't stop) and when I took it to the dealer they told me it was gunked up. The repair will be free, I'll get a few engine parts for it (a new set of bearings and rings would make me happy) but the big problem? : Gasket sets for 1mzs are backordered throughout the entire multiverse. They've had my ride for a week, and are going to have it for ANOTHER week waiting on the kit.

WTF?!?! next day air one of those mofos from Japan and get me riding again!!!

You only put in 4 quarts?

You should have put in 5 quarts.

What will Toyota do? Install a new engine with a modification to prevent sludge?

Are they giving you a rental in the mean time?

Do you have any engine mods I am afraid they will look at mine and say my engine does not count for the rebuild (if I have sludge anyway).

Did your engine just completely stop? or were you able to lurch it into the dealership?

My car has been off warranty since August of 04" and I received the letter in the mail. If there's nothing wrong with your engine, hold on to it until it is needed in the future, the notice doesn't expire like a coupon.

From what I know, they replace the block and whatever else needs to be changed such as gaskets, rings, etc..

That sucks man.
At least you don't have to pay for it, cause if you add it up you would be hurtin' more than them havin' to hold your car for almost 2 or 3 weeks.

I am not the original owner, and I have no engine mods.

The warranty is 8 years, unlimited miles from date of original sale.

I don;t think I'm getting a new block and I wasn't aware that there was anything done to prevent the problem from reoccuring.
