Electrical problems related to a/c power charger, clock, etc

I have a 99 SLE solara.
I had been using a cell phone charger successfully in the power a/c adapter for at least a year. Then, one day it just didn't work. I tried a brand new cell phone charger to see if it was that charger that was defective, but it wouldnt charge my cell phone either.
I put the cell phone charger in the cigarette lighter (this might have been a bonehead move) and then i heard a slight sound and the lighter illumination light, the light that illuminates the cigarette tray, and my clock went out. Also, over the past two years, the illumination lights that illuminate my heat/air conditioner controls have been going out, some light up and some don't.
My dome light still works, radio is fine, and some of the lights illuminating the climate control are still lit.
What does this all sound like and can I do something about it?
From reading some past posts, I am confused about if this is a fuse issue, because some people said that it is the same fuse that powers all those things, and some work and some don't.

So - as of now, clock is out, the a/c power charger doesn't work, and I have certain illumination lights out (see above).

I really appreciate the help.

if the clock is not working, it's probably a fuse. check the fuse box behind your coin box (located to the LEFT of the steering wheel)

as for the climate control lights being intermittent--mine does that too. sometimes it comes on, but when it doesn't, i have to bang the side of the center console to make it turn on.

what a poor design... :\

thanks, put in a new fuse, everything is working again - except the climate control lights, but who cares.
