Finally Did It

Got my timing belt and water pump changed. The old belt didnt look like it needed replacing though. I kindof feel like I wasted $600 bucks with this preventative maintenance stuff. Oh well I guess it solves the piece of mind thing for now. My car also just hit 100k. Hopefully this will allow it to run properly for another 100k!

Oh well, at least you know your car will run good for a long time and you dont have to worry about the belt. My belt also looks new and i dont know if it was changed.

Thats the name of the game with preventative maintenance.

The point however is that if you do this maintenance, your toyota should run great for years to come and your avoid extremely costly repairs.

BUMP to that... waiting to REACT to an issue is the WRONG way to maintain a vehicle. You have done the right thing.... it would have been necessary before long ANYWAY.... even if the belt "looks" ok.

Remember, you don't change some consumable components for a performance GAIN, you do it for continued performance at a stable level.

Now you can drive it like you stole' it!

Hells yeah, better to be safe than sorry.

Gettin mines done this week. Not cheap though, $800 for timing belt, drive belts, water pump, cam & crank seals, oil change.

wow... you guys are pretty unluck, I only had to pay $250 for my timing belt change, along with drive belts, and accesory belts. It was at a authorized Toyota dealer too....

and... same here, when they showed me the belt they replaced, I was like, what the hell? this is the old belt? it didn't look worn at all.

because you didnt repalce the water pump?

I was about 490 for all belts and pump.

Damn!!!
I'm at 84,000 miles now. Getting close to time to change the belt and pump. I'm scared to call the dealer and get an estimate.

Yeah the dealership quoted me $299 to replace just the drive belts and timing belt. They told me they would only replace the water pump if it needed it but I told them to change it whether or not it needed it. They originally quoted me over the phone $450 but by the time they charged me for coolent and all that other extra labor time it when up to $585 and then with tax up to $620. I was not impressed because Im sure I paid for and extra 2.5hrs of labor that they didnt do.

But yeah, now that I finally got this done and I picked up more hours again at work, I guess im ready to buy an exhaust now.
