Brake rotor issues

Brake rotor issues

Postby NeFaRiOuS_SLE » Wed Dec 20, 2006 6:48 pm

I just recently noticed that at high speeds coming to a stop (e.g. on the freeway), the brakes sounded like I was engine-braking an 18-wheeler (that loud rumble you hear once in a while), then at low speeds, the brakes had a consistent chatter. Had it checked for free, turned out my front rotors were cracked and warped.

Now, my car brakes are almost completely disassembled and I'm having the hardest time trying to get the friggin' rotor out, even with a torque wrench, breaker bar and a hook jaw at 100 lb/ft. Incidentally, some rotors have a screw that holds it in place, but I fail to see any (except pre-threading on both sides with no nut/screw/bolt in it). How do I go about moving this fxcking rotor? My grandma is in the hospital and I meant to visit her 2 hours ago but I'm fxcking stuck!

Please help ASAP. Thanks!

Hammer the perimeter of the center of the rotor.

If that doesn't work, put screws into the holes on the center of the rotor and turn until the rotor pops off, i.e. (borrowed from Phreak's topic in the tutorial forum):

I stripped the screw holes out so hammer did it. Son't worry sometime you have to hit hella hard.

Yeah, mine were stuck too. Just take a sledge to the rotor and viola!

Thanks for your help guys; my neighbor helped me and put the car in neutral; came off almost immediately after I was hammering the damned thing for a 1/2 hour (you should see how many gashes are in the rotor LOL).

Now, onward to the hospital to see what happened to my grandma (she was admitted to the ER last night). Thanks again!

Hey Bro,

I had the same problem; I used an air hammer and then it came off easy; hope it helps you.
