If I'm reading what you wrote correctly (please use punctuation in the future), it sounds as if you have a starter with a "flat spot."

The solution, IIRC, is to simply replace the starter.

My thoughts are that he's not getting weaking cranking; he's getting a clicking sound.

To me, that points to a starter issue.

juggalotus40, does your car start with a jump?

the original battery on my 01 v6 just went out. It had a green eye and plenty of water but still would not start the car. If you can start with a jump you need a new battery. I got mine from advance auto parts about 80 dollars for the titanium series with about 725 cca

The "clicks of death" usually indicate a starter issue... (as already mentioned)...

If the battery was dead the radio wouldn't be working...

Battery could have enough power for the radio and not the starter if it was on its way out mine did that.

Lucky for him, it'll be pretty easy to figure out which is which.

Don't forget to wash a new battery with baking soda and water because acid is uaually all over the case. Also get a paper cup with 1/2 baking soda and 1/2 water and put the cable leads in and let them soak for awhile. I use a toothbrush to clean them off. After the battery is in and cables connected I use a battery protector (Krylon) spray to keep the cables free of corrosion.

I don't know where you live (i.e., how cold it is in your area), but it's quite possible your battery has more than fair amount of serviceable life left.
