Burning Oil

Postby thook » Sat Jan 13, 2007 10:48 pm

I bought a 02 Solara se v-6 with 35,000 from Towbin Dodge "the King of Cars" just outside of Las Vegas a couple of months ago for 13000 (because of the low mileage). I thought that since this was a toyota (and they last forever) it would be a good car to put 100,000 miles on and sell cheap to my teenage son.

It is burning 1 quart of mobil 1 synthetic oil every 2-3 tanks of gas, which I think is excessive given the low mileage. It has started to blow a tiny bit of blue smoke on startup. It also has a rattle coming from the rear wheel area like something is loose (local shop double checked me and nothing is loose). Any ideas of what I can do for these issues that won't break the bank? Thanks.

Blue smoke? It usually means that you have oil sludge buildup in your engine block... Fortunately for you, there is an oil sludge campaign out. Check out below:

Rear rattle could be a bearing or suspension mounts.
