replacing car battery --- need advice

replacing car battery --- need advice

Postby andrew_alfonso » Sat Jan 20, 2007 8:29 am

I'm currently shopping for a new battery to replace my 6-yr. old original TrueStart battery. Been reading extensively in this forum and the popular choice is Optima. I cannot afford this, can anyone please advice if Wal-Mart Everstart Maxx (yellow) or Autozone's Duralast (Red top) are also good? If not, please advice a good alternative one. I also looked at Consumer Reports Magazine and for group 35 batteries, where most Toyotas sedans are classified, their #1 recommendation is NAPA Legend 7535.
So which shall I choose, EverStart Maxx, Duralast, of NAPA Legend???? :o

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

why not go with interstate? they're not that expensive and they are pretty good.I have that in my car at the moment. had to buy it when my old batt died on me and walked to autozone, and only had 30 bucks on me. bought that, and it's worked fine for over a year.
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

That would be great, but do you think it would last long enough? Pricewise and Warrantywise, I'm leaning on buying Wal-Mart's Yellow EverStart maxx battery (36 mos free replacement/108 mos prorated), but so far I don't see anyone use or recommend it...wonder why.....

No Biggie

It's not that big of a decision. Why not just stick to the Toyota OEM battery? If not and you want to go with a more powerful battery go with Duralast Gold. Otherwise Red is sufficient. I wouldn't go with Wal-mart vs. an Autozone for ease of service. Autozone deals with it every day so if you ever need to replace it I'm sure it would be less of a headache. Go with NAPA if they're close. Jon.

both of you have a good point. Although it's truly no big deal to replace a battery, I really wanted from other owners' their experiences so I can learn my options on which to choose. After I made a couple of calls, I found a deal on the original toyota OEM battery which costs for $71.00 (with $10 off coupon) and an 36/84 warranty that comes with it. Sounds a good deal? It's a carry-out price and I have to give them my old one back.

Good choice, I guess my analogy is this when it comes to using OEM parts. It's like saying I have a Toyota that lasted 25 years, I need a new car what should I get? A Honda, Ford, GM, etc, etc. Why not go with what works/worked well in the first place. I stick to OEM myself. You pay a bit more but usually in the long run it's worth it. Jon.

I went over to costco and picked up a kirkland batt. Works fine 36/108, and its was little over 60 I believe.
