Clutch Pedal Problems

Clutch Pedal Problems

Postby boneezy » Fri Jan 26, 2007 7:36 pm

1999 (110K miles). I did the good ol search but nothing really helped. Anyways, this only happens in 1st to 2nd gear, especially in stop and go traffic.. I put my car into 1st gear, and as im feathering the clutch to get it going, i can feel the pedal not coming back up with my foot. its as if its stuck to the floor. then when im fast enough for 2nd gear, i cant use my clutch because its pressed all the way down with no tension. causing me to shift without the clutch. While in second I have to use the tip of my shoe to pop the pedal back out again and give it a couple of small pumps before I feel safe with the spring tension in the pedal. its fine for all the other gears and downshifts

im thinking i have air in my clutch line somehow because the pedal feels like an unbled brake pedal. But im not sure if its my clutch because according to the search a lot of the forum have changed clutch around this time (which i cant afford), or maybe it could be either my master or slave cylnder because I had a similar problem in my audi but that clutch pedal problem happened in all gears

thanks fellas

*Update*

I need a new clutch master cylinder. Any place I can get it for a decent price?

It's either a leak in the line, lack of fluid or... Let's face it; you need a new clutch.

if it only happens in 1st to 2nd gear... sounds like you need a new clutch... you can try changing the master or slave.... try the cheaper stuff first... bleed the lines... if not make sure the master cylinder is tighten to the clutch pedal... i had similar problems... i had to pump my the clutch several times to get into 1st...i changed everything... all it was the master cylinder wasn't tighten fully to the clutch.
