Check Engine Light...failed inspection

Check Engine Light...failed inspection

Postby stinkypug » Sat Aug 04, 2007 4:22 pm

Hey everyone, I disconnected my car battery for 24 hours because the check engine light was on...then I took it for inspection and it failed....they said that the car would have to be driven 50 miles before they could read the diagnostics...I had driven 17 miles...on the way home the CEL re-appeared.

I went to Autozone and got the following codes:
PO125
P1135
P1130
P1135 (not a typo...showed up twice)

99 Solara - should I replace the items below?
Coolant Temp Sensor, MAF Sensor and the Temp Switch

Thanks for the help!

re: Autozone codes

thanks guys, I did some researching (on solaraguy.com) and found out what the codes mean...was wondering if anyone had encountered the same problem and what they did first to troubleshoot the issue. I have 30 days before I can retest the inspection and want to make sure this car passes!
thank you in advance for the kind advice!

Welcome to SolaraGuy! Feel free to introduce yourself in the Introductions section... As far as your issues it should only be the A/F and the coolant thermostat.

I replaced the thermostat and cleaned the MAF sensors with Brake Cleaner (yes, I know it sounds crazy but I read it online)...then I unplugged the battery for 1/2 hour-45 mins - on the way home, the CEL came on (AGAIN) !!! I also slapped on a new toyota gas cap...

i'm ready to trade this car in for a Honda (JUST KIDDING)...my last camry (95) had 240K when I sold it...great cars they just have VERY sensitive sensors.

this may sound like a dumb question but is the 02 sensor the same as the A/F sensor? If so, how much?

I went to Autozone and the guy (who also works part-time at Toyota) said that I could only get an A/F sensor from the dealer (approx: $260)...went to Ebay and found one for under $20...are these 02 sensors legit? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OXYGEN-S ... enameZWD1V

read your article about the coolant...I put 50/50 and I noticed some red stuff/liquid in the mass air flow pipe when I was cleaning it out...wonder if I should do another flush and go with the RED stuff...any thoughts?

AF sensors are air fuel sensors, and cali spec cars have those... o2 sensors are oxygen sensors for all non-cali spec cars..

price difference on o2's usually comes down to if you have to cut and tie wires together, or if it is a plug and play harness type...
Parting out my car!!! great upgrades for sale!
