Getting rid of Solara...!

Postby ChrYstiE » Mon Apr 28, 2008 7:36 pm

i graduate in 2 weeks, and as a graduation present i'm going to dump the solara and get another car. no worries, i already got a great job lined up.. i'm ~just that good~

& i think i'm getting an s2k...

how much of a moron am i for getting one?

i'm also looking in the upwards of $25k range and am also looking at:
08/09 mazda3 (great commuter car, 09 is a new body style btw)
08 nissan rogue
07/08 altima 4 banger (again, great commuter car)
'06 325i

but i *reallyreallyreally* want the s2k.

any help/suggestions please!

also, i am trying to figure out a good price to sell the 'lara at... i'm just gonna dump it with the system and the wheels to *hopefully* some dumbass kid. i was thinking starting at ~$7k with the wheels and system, and after "negotiating" getting around $6k. '99 se v6 with 104k is it a fair price?

s2k will bring you the most fun and gas isnt too bad either. As long as you keep it in out of VTEC. Other than that, I would go Z but ther are both different classes. The S2k will bring you more fun per miles. haha

Not being bias, I drive my friends 350z all the time, its numb and heavy cruiser car. Feels like the solara on steriods but still a big car. Nothing beats a small nible car thats light on its toes.

mazda3 is cool but i'd only go for a mazdaspeed3. The normal one feels too much like a ford focus IMO.

Looks like 2004+ is best. Same gas mileage but more tq.

If your in jersey, id say the AWD rogue, but if you want a car... I'd go for the altima (4 banger) 6 speed, the auto is CVT which is nothing but crap. GL with your choice, sorry to see you leave Solaraland.

actually, the insurance on the s2k is $20-30/mo cheaper than an 08 mazda3.. tell me how that makes sense! i also have no tickets and no accidents (that were my fault)

lol i'm not going anywhere... you guys are like family! i'm just gonna have new wheels!

if it snows really bad, i'll just take my mom's 3. it snowed an inch once this year, and it melted the next day.

I bought my SE V6 TuRD for $5000 with SC, other mods, and with 155k. You should get $6k.

i thought about a z or a g35, but if i'm gonna have a 2-seater, i want a car that i can flip up the top. the gas mileage that they both get is horrendous, whereas the s2k gets 2-3 mpg better than the solara. granted, it takes premium, but the extra 26 cents per gallon only adds up to like $15/mo. more in gas

my s2k gets better milage than my camry :) well, until my right foots gets heavy. haha.

get and 06 if possible. older models dyno @ 195whp avg while newer ones get 210-215whp avg.

Also, older models trannys were nasty. They were geared all wrong. The newer models had 1-5 shorter and 6 longer. AP1 s2k's @ 70-mph is at 4.5-5k RPM. Mine sits nicely @ 3.6k

to help you out : :drinking:

Well, the gearing only seems so bad on the AP1 because you had so many revs to play with :drinking:

I have a potential buyer for ur car but he surely isnt "dumb", i want to know what u meant by that statement.

Actually the AP1 does better with AP2 tranny. AP1 tranny tends to grind and pop out of gears. They had triple cone synchros as where the AP2 has carbon.

Also AP1 head is weak Weak point is the valve retainers. They crack and will eventually drop a valve into the cylinder. AP1 guys upgrade to AP2 valve retainers.

I actually know the grinding tranny on the AP1 really well

Interesting about the dropped valves though. Although, if you think about it, at 9000 RPM something's gotta go, right.

Chrystie, heres a vid of an S vs. a slightly modded SRT-4

S2k loves gears. Quick gear swap and it screams, trade off is lower mpg :(

also, intake/headers/exhaust do NOTHING for performance. Its mainly for sound and response. I admit, I do have an AEM CAI but its mainly cause its red and matches my car plus the sound is pure sex.
