vibration due to a/c

vibration due to a/c

Postby hari-bhari » Tue Jul 08, 2003 1:13 pm

hey i usually drive with my a/c off, but i turned it on today with the windows rolled up and noticed that it causes some vibration in the steering wheel. this is more of an issue at idle, when im stopped at a traffic light, not when im moving. anyone know if this is normal? and man, i think i might have to take apart my passenger door, that noise at 2000 rpm is getting really annoying, and i want to get rid of it before i sell my car.

my solara isn't "experienced" enough yet to be doing that...

but my last car did that, so does my mom's 99 CR-V and my dad's truck... so I would think it's normal

Mine does that too. My Celica did it also, so I just figure that is how Toyotas are. Now that the question is out here, I am sort of curious what causes this? Is there a way to fix it?
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

hmm the vibration is most likely caused by the a/c compressor. once you hit that ac button, there is a clutch that pops in and steals more power from the engine, making it to work harder; but you get colder air inside.

yup that makes sense, jus wanted to make sure its a normal vibration though. seems almost cyclic, fades in and out once every second, but very mild, it wouldn't**** get anybody's attention. i only notice cuz im obsessed :P

There are still 4 more senses: touch, see, smell and hear... take your pick!

well you can't taste it....you may be able to see if if your own hand was on the steering wheel and u watched it shaking, or maybe my own hand on the wheel, you could see it shaking, but that would still involve touch. you can't smell it obviously, and its not really audible either, so hearing is out the question. so there you have it, you just have to FEEEEEL it
