Just a thought, I fixed my hissing booster by replacing the gasket between the booster and master cylinder. It might not fix your problem but its only worth about $2 and 20 mins of work, so it may be worth a try.

I second this. I replaced this $2 Gasket about 2-3 years ago and no hissing ever since.

While you were in there replacing the gasket, did you peek into the booster to inspect the seal?

I replaced my gasket but the hissing is still there. I guess I have a bad booster. I'm picking one up tomorrow. Hopefully the CEL goes away after that is replaced.

I didnt make out too well on the easy fix $2 gasket but I had great luck finding an OEM brake booster in REALLY GOOD condition for $30. I picked it up this morning and after I installed it, the hissing was gone so I'm assuming everything is in working order. If I had time I wouldve done a DIY thread but if anyone needs help replacing the booster, I'll be glad to help.

I think a video showing how to measure and adjust the pin in the brake booster would be helpful. But if you bought one used, it's probably close enough.

Solara SLE 2000 v6 w/ traction control brake booster

I recently had hissing sounds from my brake booster when I stepped on the pedal. But there's no engine light that came on. I then thought it was the brake booster so I got one from auto part but it wasn't with traction control so it started to lock up my brakes. Then I got one from a junk yard and it had the traction control but it still made the hissing noise. So I googled and saw a thread on here that mentioned changing the gasket and there's no more noise.

However I did see mentions of the brake booster's seal being busted. What do you guys mean by this? Can you clearly explain a busted one vs a good one? I looked at mights and see the middle screw had cracks in my booster but it didn't make any noise.... Someone clarify this for me.

See where the shaft goes into the booster? There's a rubber seal, in this picture it's broke.
