Smell??

Postby Akfahad » Wed Sep 03, 2003 6:34 am

Just wondering if anybody else has had an experience with this. Every time i floor the gas and go thru the gears, i get a kind of carbon smell in the cabin. But it only does it when i jam on the gas. Is this normal or is there something messed up in the engine? :(

I get that smell once in a while too... so I would think it's normal =x but I don't floor it that often

I get that smell too. It's really odd, because it doesn't seem to be coming in through the windows. I think it comes in through the air vents. I'm not sure how that smell (which I think is exhaust fumes) makes it in there.

Anyone know the cause??

do you have a stick?
also do you get this smell only when you go thru the gears from a standstill? or you get this smell when you cruising?
if you get the smell when you are starting from a dead stop and going thru the gears (Assuming you have a stick) then the smell could be the clutch.

clutch smell is DISTINCT and once you smell your clutch you cant forget that smell (anyone had that experience before??? :D )
i was climbing up sunset thru la ceinega here in LA and that road is like 45 degrees to horizontal and i had my car in second gear by mistake..

Yea your right, i do have a stick. But i'll get that smell either when i'm from a dead stop or cruising in 2nd or 3rd and i gun it, i'll still get it. I don't think it's my clutch, it still engages fine both at normal driving and when i'm having fun

I have an automatic transmission and the smell usually occurs when I'm already moving (i.e. not from a dead stop). If I floor it, pushing the RPMs really high, I get the smell.

well i dont really know too much about automatic transmissions.
but as i said, the clutch smell is really really distinct.. its like something you have never smelled before.

why not go to a mechanic and ask them to smell it? i am sure they wont charge anything..

Yeah, the pee smell from your air conditioning is probably just the actual moisture the air conditioner produces because of condensation.
Although mine doesn't smell like pee, more like a light mold.
