I searched and read but could not find...

I realize that there are many knowledgeable folks here who get a bit irritated at the same questions over and over, but I did a search for "235/45-18" and nuthin... then I read the 'wheels' thread (yes, the whole thing and it took hours) still nuthin that answered my question.

So, here it is... I do not want to lower my Solara, so I'm guessin that allows me to put bigger diameter tires on it. I have already done that once when I replaced the OEM 205/60-16s with 215/60-16s and did not incur any rubbing, but it still looks like there is LOTS of room around the tires and now I want to get new 18 inch wheels and they are tellin me that the "recommended fitment" is 225/40-18 but that diameter winds up even smaller than the OEM and WAY smaller than the 215/60-16s I have now.

I went to this great site http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp?item=Wheel-Tire size comparer&sw1=215&ar1=60&bd1=16&rw1=6.0&et1=45&sw2=235&ar2=45&bd2=18&rw2=7.5&et2=38&text1=&text2=
and plugged in the info for the tire I have and the tire I want and it has a caution about width and fenders. I haven't searched for info on rolling my fenders cause I'd rather avoid that; so my question is
Has anyone ever put or heard of someone putting 235/45-18s on a non-lowered/ridin high gen1 Solara???

note: The 235/40-18s are also smaller diameter than the OEMs so I dont want 40s

I thinkg 235 is possible, but prob cutting it close to the strut. I have 225 on right now and i am lowered and have no issues. So my guess on 235/45/R18 would prob fit (not sure) 235/45/R17 Will Def fit.

thank you Steve... the message I get from that website is "Package will stick out 22 mm (0.9'') farther. Make sure that you have enough room under the fender. If not, consider narrower tires or higher offset."

so, almost an inch closer on the outside of the car... it looks like it will be under the fender lip but I still have a bit of travel since my car isnt lowered. I just wonder if on a very big pothole fill or a deep dip in the road or with people in the back if that will hit the fender?

Thank you Corlon! I was going to go for 225s but I really would like a fatter tire... my concern is that the 10mm difference could be the killer. 225/40/18 is the recommended fitment and I thought about 225/45/18 which should work just as well, but I really do want the 235s and I want them to be larger overall diameter than the OEM 205/60/16s hence the 45s

YIKES  I cant believe I didnt state that in the original post... sorry guys

I am getting an 18 inch wheel that is 7.5 inches wide with a +38 offset. The 235/45/18s are roughly the same diameter as the old one in the pic only 20mm fatter so they will stick out from under the wheel well

hmmm you might run into rubbing on the strut. When i had 17x7.5 with a +42 on 225's i rubbed. I needed a 5mm spacer to push it out a bit. But youre running a lower offset so maybe you will be ok. Worst comes to worst you will need to put a small spacer to push em out.

yeah, mine will be 4mm farther out from the strut than your +42s so I dont think the strut will be the problem. My main concern is the wheel travel on big bumps. I sure am appreciating all the great help here tho! Thanx!!!

ToyoSolV6 wrote: "When i had 17x7.5 with a +42 on 225's i rubbed" ... Did you have to sell those wheels and buy others or did spacers do the trick?
