04 SLE Mileage

04 SLE Mileage

I just finished my first tank of gas and I got 19.3 MPG. I'm a little disappointed since I was taking it easy (slow starts, no revs...) until I got passed 1,000 miles. Guess I was expecting something over 20 MPG. I have been running the air conditioning. Anyway I sold my 2001 Acura CLS before getting the Solara. I loved the way the CLS drived but I never really liked the looks and I could'nt drive the thing even close to the speed limit. I love the looks of the Solara and the power is just where I need it to be and I don't feel like I have to prove anything. Anyway back to the point. I was just curious as to what other SLE owners are getting mileage wise.

I read somewhere that said new cars usually take more gas...break it in like usual then measure the mpg.

u have to consider a few things:

1) how are u calculating your mileage? the best way, IMO, is to fill it up completely, zero the tripometer, drive til the light comes on, fill up again, see how many gallons it took, and divide your tripometer mileage by the gallons you just filled up

2) where are you driving? if its mostly city, 19 seems about right, really. thas what i average in the avalon, which is a v6. if its highway driving, then yea, that seems a bit low, but it could be that you have to break it in (i dont know anything about that, though)
