Small Coin Tray Won't stay Closed

I have a small issue with the small coin tray right next to the steering column (the one with the fuses behind it). For some reason the tray won't stay closed. It just hangs open all the time. I was wondering if anyone had any potential solutions, or a place I could order some sort of replacement. My local mechanic said I needed some sort of spring, but I'd have to buy the whole assembly (about $40) since they don't sell the spring individually. Don't know if you guys have heard anything different.
