power driver seat question

power driver seat question

Postby nkx1 » Sun Jul 14, 2002 11:55 pm

I don't know if it's just my car, but my power seat kind of annoys me. It seems like it's not fastened correctly, but I looked at the under portion closely, and there's nothing that can be done easily to fix it because there are no screws, just permanently fastened pins. Basically, if I sit in the seat and push with my feet on the floor to put pressure on the backrest portion of the seat, I can feel that the seat kind of clicks and moves a tiny bit. Although it's not a huge deal, I can feel the same annoying seat movement while driving normally; mostly when shifting, because of the movement of the car.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else's seat did this, or if I just got a crappy seat.

I know what you are talking about (our old ford did the same). THANKFULLY we sold it. However, I currently do not have any problems on my Camry (its got power/leather). I do not have any problems on my Solara (its got power/non-leather). Also, i don't have that problem on our ES. Either you jump on the seats when you sit, or there is something WRONG/LOOSE!

Seats - Rocking Motion In Drivers Seat

Postby qlaval » Mon Jul 15, 2002 2:36 pm

Hi nkx1, jhbhatia and fairlite!

I think that both of you are afflicted with the "Seats - Rocking Motion In Drivers Seat" problem.

There has been a Technical Service Bulletin about that problem and your Toyota dealer should be alerted about it. :-?

The TSB Number is BO011-00 it was issued in MAR 00 and it was named as... Seats - Rocking Motion In Drivers Seat :D

I hope this information will help you all fix that annoying problem.

QLAVAL

so what exactly does a 'technical service bulletin' mean...
is it a recall, is it a easy fix for the dealerships as a lot of you all are affected by this?? (by free fix, i mean...not exactly a recall, but if your affected...then toyota will service this for free??). elaborate please..

Hey qlaval, thanks for the info. I just bought my '99 solara certified used, but the 3yr factory warranty had just expired prior to me purchasing the car. The certified warranty is only for the powertrain. Oh, and in answer to Tmana's question, the factory warranty has to be in effect to get free service for the TSB's. Anyway, the service guy was pretty cool, and I'm getting a whole new assembly for the power seat. Hopefully, the new seat wont rock like my current one.

I know this an old thread, but man did it save me. My car officially turned 3 years old and the bumper to bumper warrenty just ended. My driver's seat started rocking just a few weeks ago -- it was only slight but I knew it was a problem that would only get worse. First time I took it to the dealer, they were unable to do anything. I search Solaraguy and I go back with this TSB information and get a whole new assembly --- and no more rocking!!!

so now when i go WOT with my soon to arrive S/C, i'll just sink into the seats more. :onfire:

Just wanted to provide some more proof that this site does have some good information.

My seat does the same thing and it makes me crazy! I'm definitely going to take it to the dealer since my car is only 6 months old.

Thanks for everyone's information!

My seat does the same, its not a huge movement, but enough to know its there. The dealer said it was normal, the 2002 already has the upgraded seat mechanism. Supposedly it is due to the clearances required for the seat to move. Seems fishy to me, but the dealer was no help on this one.

The TSB is not a recall and is not something that would automatically come up as required service. But if you give the TSB # to them and that is the problem, they are required to fix it as long as it is under warrenty.

It is definitely not normal for a seat to rock (almost 1 cm) and I feel is a severe safety issue (whiplash protection, etc). Like I said, first time I went in, they looked and tightened up everything, but still the same rocking. I took the TSB information in --- problem fixed.

I have the same problem with my 02 Solara. I brought it in to Irvine Toyata with the TSB number. They told me that my seat does not rock that much and the slight rock is normal. Also, the TSB is for the 00 model only.

What should i do?????

I actually brought a print out of this link to the dealer. FYI, I sent Toyata an email about this experience. Have not heard from them yet.
