I'm looking at some low mileage Solaras. I figure one way I could be less suspicious of tampering (ie-- install a salvage instrument cluster) is to know what tires came on the car from the factory. I realize there may have been a couple different ones, but I think the SLE V6's wouldn't have more than 2 or maybe 3 brands/manufacturers.

Also, how easy would it be to swap out a cluster. I AM NOT GOING TO DO IT!! I know some makers have built in devices that make it VERY difficult to just swap a different cluster like they did "back in the day". TIA.

Taking out the cluster is easy, however I'm not sure that that would reset the mileage on it...

Now that I think of it... I guess since it is digital data and not mechanical, then the ECU would maybe store mileage in its data bank. That would make it damn hard to cheat it unless you got the ECU out the donor car. Anyone know if the data for miles is in the cluster or the ECU on digital readouts?? Good point my man.

^^ what he said...Mine also came with potenza's...lasted close to 22K miles before i need to change them!

As far as the milage goes, you would need a pro' to reduce milage on a car. Its not all just dials like the older cars where just a few screws and a heatgun = odometer rollback! If anything, i'd check the carfax, then the guy's who's selling it to me with his/her maint receipts and also if he/she is friendly to check with their insurance agent to see of any claims (any accidents that didn't show up on carfax). Good luck!

Good lookin' out! Did all the Solaras come with the full size spare? Is it just like the 4 rims on the car or is it a steelie??

as far i as i know it came with a full size spare, which is funny cuz some infinitis before didn't come with a full size spare. ad on another note i didn't know the car cames with michelins? dealer told me that all 99 solara came with bridgestones, which by the way are not worth buying since they cost like 140 some dollars for one.

All Solaras came with full size spare, but only the SLEs had the alloy rim... and I think you could get it as part of an upgrade package on some SEs.

about the cluster, there where it stores your mileage, NOT the ECU...i guess it's just digitalized(?) instead of jumper numbers...but yes, swapping another cluster then you have no Clue what exaclty the mileage the car has been driven...

this was tested by ME...i thought it was controlled by ECU too, but it's not...

That's what I had with my SEV6. Mine came with the Michelins, by the way.
