how rough is the clear coat? you have a lot of buried dirt? sap? tar?

if you car is fairly smooth when washing, you probably dont need to clay bar. a cleaner wax may serve to help get the last coat of wax off though. go for a polish wax next, followed by the gold class.

i did those before and takes forever. i just use either "Wax as you Dry" from eagle one or use meguiars quick wax.
