What's up with my door?

What's up with my door?

Postby Missay » Tue Jan 06, 2004 7:24 pm

I'm just curious if I should be worried bout this...it's only happened 3 times now in the past 10months or so.

Tonight, when I got in my car and shut the door it wouldn't shut fully. It was ajar, but closed and I could fit a finger out the side of the window. From the other two times it did it, I knew all I had to do was re-open it and use two hands to slam it closed as hard as I can

The thing that scares me, is that when it doesn't shut fully it almost looks like the door doesn't fit into the door socket or that the door is unaligned with the door frame.

I know from work that sometime a latch can be messed up, preventing it from shutting, but I don't think that's it. It had snowed, so maybe it was just like when a door jam swells up in the heat and shrinks in the cold? I'm almost wondering if someone tried to slim jim my door cause it looks like the window is bulging out a little where you'd pry the door open :-?

ewwww..how much would that cost outta pocket?

Maybe I'll stick w/ the two hands in the side compartment, slam shut method.....that's provided the window doesn't shatter............. :o

my car has done that before just open and close it a few times it should pop back in. thats one of the minor problems with having a coupe, no "frame for the window"..like on 4 doors.

two door coupes are notorious for sagging door hinges. The heavy doors sag the hinges with a lot of use. IF the striker pin is not adjustable, you may want to replace the door hinges....or slam the door alot...

Hey Missay,

I think that I have the same problem as you described. Sometimes when I close my door, it doesn't close all the way (i.e. there is a gap). I have to open and close the door several times for it to "fix itself". It seems that the top corner of the window (corner where the seat belt latch is at the B pillar) pushes into the molding. It's almost like the door is too high up as opposed to sagging too low.

Did you ever find a fix for the problem? Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Anthony

I got the same deal, with the window hitting that plastic frame outside. I just got into the habit of lowering the window a tiny bit every time I close the door from the inside. When I close it from the outside, it closes correctly.

Funny other people have this problem too, I thought i was the only one. haha

nah, this is a totally different problem. i mentioned about the window hitting the plastic molding, too when this problem was first presented back in 1982 by Missay.

we resolved that issue by blaming it on our frameless doors and that we were SOL when it came to the window and plastic molding.

THESE guys are having a problem with their actual door and its hinge. thank god i never had to deal with that shit though....
