Hydraulic noise in my steering/brakes

Postby bchguy111 » Thu Jan 15, 2004 10:12 am

I have a 2000 Solara SE Auto. I've noticed when I backup and especially when I turn quickly or make a sharp turn my car makes this hydrolic(mechanical) noise. Also, it sometimes occur when I brake hard. There is not rattling, grinding, or etc. Has anyone experienced that? Is it normal? Besides that noise, my car drives fine. My brakes are fine and my struts have just been replaced.[/img]

first off, do let us know if this is a steering thing or a suspension thing (my advise below is for the steering and NOT for suspention)

If the noise you're hearing a squealing sound, like when you have a loose power steering belt? The noise from the rubber grommet is a very common Camry issue, and it sounds like it's coming right from the steering wheel, although the noise is really coming from the firewall...I know i currently have it on my camry... i know i need to also replace my p/s, a/c and timing belt...so i'm not too bothered by it as i'm only 3K miles away from replacing them! Lube it regularly, and it should be all good...I just tell the shops to lube it for me!

Thanks for the info. I think it's a steering thing. The noise is not a squeal. It's sounds like a hydraulic lift type noise. I don't know how to describe it. I would take it to the dealership but it doesn't do it all the time.
