Trouble Starting Car

Postby thealkimo » Tue Mar 02, 2004 7:26 pm

For the past few weeks, every once in a while when I try to start my car the engine doesn't turn over properly. However, if I hold the accelerator down a bit while I turn the ignition on the car will start up. I know it's not the battery because I recently installed a Die Hard Gold. Any input? Thanks.

I use 87. If it is the fuel filter/injector that is clogged, how hard is it to declog? And if its the starter is it difficult to replace? I'm not to good with car guts

depending on mileage it may be better to put a new filter in. along with injector service.

are you too strapped for cash to at least use 89 oct?

I just heard that it is pointless using anything higher than 87 unless your engine requires it. But if 89 maintains better then I'm using it from here on out. I'll try a new filter and injection service too...thanks for the help! 8)

hold off on dealer injector service. pick up a bottle of injector cleaner. use some of that and see how it goes.

that i must admit really does work.

I use one of those small bottles of injector and carb cleaner every oil change (every 3,500 miles). Seems to work!

Thanks for the info, I'm going to take it to Toyota to have the fuel filter replaced and injectors cleaned...hopefully that'll solve all! Thanks again.

The vast majority of injector cleaners are BS. The only one I think I've ever used with less than questionable results is the Redline one. I'd start with changing out your fuel filter, then going from there.
