2nd Gen Solara Sales Big Disappointmennt

Those of us who love and own the 1st generation Solara and don't like the 2nd gen Solara may be happy to know that the new Solara is being called a big sales disappointment by Gary Convis (TMMK President).
They are only building about 800 units/week heading into its second season when sales are usually at its highest level. Go figure!!!!

700t,

I'm trying to understand why you are gleaning happiness from poor Solara sales. Are you trying to make the point that because you don't happen to like the remodeled Solara that others are to dislike it as well? Or are you pleased that a fellow Solara owner, albeit a generation two owner, is having his new 2004 Solara labeled a "big sales disappointment"? Why would this quote greet you with happiness?

At the risk of sounding like I'm rationalizing, which I definitely am not, I am pleased at your alleged statistic for low production numbers for the second generation Solara. It means there will be fewer cars like mine on the road. I'm pleased my 2004 Solara won't become another cookie-cutter Accord.

I think maybe you should go kick your dog or cat a few times and happily watch it suffer. It won't talk back to you. But please stay off this forum if all you have to say are negative, self-satisfying comments about fellow Solara owners.

Fotodad,
A proud, pleased, satisfied, and happy GENERATION TWO owner.

By the way, I think generation 1 and 1.5 Solaras are wonderful looking cars in their own way. Heck, I owned a generation 1 car before I traded it in on a 2004.

It is a good thing that the gen 2 solara sales are poor because the design sucks. The car looks fat and bloated with a saggy rear end. Maybe toyota will get a clue and design a better looking car if it isnt selling well.

these anti gen 2 threads are getting really old, but at least 700t was talking about the Toyota sales perspective.

They've been selling well in So. Cal. They are getting to the point where they are moving up on Gen 1.5s and soon to be on 1.0 lol. In my parking lot at work, there are 4 solaras. A gen 1, my 1.5 and 3 Gen 2 (white, dark blue, and black).

Well most importantly if Sales ARE bad... that mean Toyota could axe it in 2009, instead of coming out with a Gen 3.

Not the solution any of us want... 2 door cars fit such a niche market to begin with.

I Just think that for the money one could get a better car with more ponies than a GEN 2. I think that the GEN 2 is a bit over priced, if toyota wanted to sell that design with that engine in it they should of sold in the 18,000 to 25,000 range.

Toyota: Want to break sales Records with the Solara?

- Get at least 250HP out of that Engine!
- Redesign the rear, I think we all could agree on that!
- Xenon package as an option at least!
- Make more aftermarket parts!

... But then again, as many say it is a two door version of a Camry, so of course Toyota is going to keep it conservative.

Scratch all That ^ !!!!

Toyota, just remake the Supra Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think there are two major reason caused poor sale

1. the competition gots stronger (mazda 6, accord coupe, neon SRT, WRX...etc) At 99-2001, we dont have some of the car above to competit.

2. Some dealer know people like the new solara, they got cocky with it. This is their own marketing problem. For example, when i was trying to buy the solara for my gf, one dealer even quote me $400 mark up (wtf, its a damn camry) or not willing lower the price. They all said same thing "high demand cause the price fix". Also, whenever they have rebate and discount, the gen2 solara wasnt included. The gen 1 and gen 1.5 was included in the rebate program.

i agree that some changes should b made 2 the gen 2.. and there will b.. guessing gen 2.5... but nethertheless... i still love the projectors available on the gen 2... i believe its big n bulky cuz they wanted 2 do what Nissan did... made almost all their cars fat... but in my opinion... Toyota failed with the gen 2... gotta go.. laters
