Car Insurance

Postby ToyotaN00b » Fri Apr 30, 2004 11:47 am

Well, I'll start by saying that I'm a 19 year-old, full-time college student, living with my parents. My solara is a 2001 4-banger. I am under my parents policy (State Farm) and I'm paying $300 a month for insurance without a single ticket on my record or a claim to my insurance. Myself and everyone I talk about it agrees that this is way too high.

I was just wanting to get some perspective on others in my age group paying for insurance and if anyone has any suggestions on what to do or where to go to get better rates they are more then welcome!

Thanks guys!

I'm under my step-dad's insurance and luckily he pays it for me. I'm pretty sure it's around 300 a month too. He has two cars, two boats and a house on his policy too. He has no wrecks or tickets. Same for my mother. Myself I have one ticket but it shows up as taking a 4 hour class instead of points on my license and one accident put on the insurance. State farm as well for me and like I said I'm pretty sure he's said around 300 a month for my car alone. I think the only thing you can to to keep your insurance down is just keep your nose clean with no tickets or accidents. I think if you're in school if you have good grades they might give you a break but that just might be in high school.

Hmm...something else I should have added is that I'm listed under my step-mom's insurance with State Farm and there are two cars on there. My Solara and her 2003 Vette. I'm not listed as a driver on the Vette she even has to sign an agreement saying I would never drive it...That couldn't be what is making my insurance so high could it?

insurnace is based on a few things
1. Car (i agree no 5sfe should be that high)
2. Driver (from what was described..you weren't too young).
3. Location - I live in Harris County...the second highest insurnace premiums in the states....people's insurnace are often more than their car payments. So it all depends on where you live as well...

I pay close to 156 for full coverage (me: multi accidents, 27 yrs, married, multi-discount).

I pay about $700 a year with American Express through Costco. I had Progressive, but when I moved up to Chicago my rate was going to double! AMEX was half the price.
38, male, single, no accidents, and high deductible!
Don't believe the lies that insurance goes down when you hit 25, 30, etc. It never did for me, and they all raise rates every year! Insurance is a rip-off because of lawyers, thieves, and liars!
