Emergency brake lever adjustment ???? HELP!!!

Emergency brake lever adjustment ???? HELP!!!

Postby that1mexguy » Fri Jun 04, 2004 1:34 pm

Ok, i have the Haynes Manual for my car (99 Solara) and it says that the emergency brake should only click 5-8 times. Mine is going about 10-11 so obviously, it needs to be adjusted. According to the manual, all i have to do is go inside the center console and there should be some bolts i can easily adjust to get the lever 5-8 clicks. Well guess what, i've removed the damn console in the middle and there is NOTHING close to what's in the manual. The manual is for Toyota Cmary 1997-2001 to include Solara, Avalong and Lex ES300 so I know i got the right now. Does any1 out there knows how to get the emergency brake lever adjusted to the correct settings for a 5 speed 99SE Solara??? pls??

^^ Thats 70 bucks you could save!! Real easy!!

For the drums and disk it's the same. Adjust from the outside with a "Brake adjustment tool" but you can use a flat head screwdriver. Go to page 9-13 and you will find how to do it. See illustration 5.6 and 5.6c "rotate the adjuster wheel in a clockwise direction"

If you have trouble give me a ring and I can give more info.

Later...

Actually i was able to figure it out. After removing the console, follow the lever and you can see the cable at the bottom. At the very top of the cable (behind the lever) there are 2 nutz, one on top of the other. The nut at the bottom is what needs to be adjusted. So now I'm at 6-7 clicks, yaaaay me!! :drinking: :bday: :drinking: :bday: :drinking:

(mexguy) - he got disk, but it also has that same opening in the driver side rear axle to adjust. He found another way via the center councel.
