Water Pump

I'm at 90K on my 1999 SE V6 will be replacing the timing belt this weekend. I'm thinking of replacing the water pump since I'll be in that area.
Question - anyone had any experience with aftermarket water pumps? Pep Boys/Checker's/Auto Zone...or should I go with the one from the Toyota dealer?

oem is perfectly fine.

there's real no need for a bigger or faster pump, since everything was designed for the flow rate of the stock one.

Well i did a search on Water Pump and this thread is the closest one I could find.. anyway, I'm reaching 90K on my ride and was looking around to see what is some of the maintenance required. I was able to come up with a descent list of schedule maintenance found at Edmunds.com and I just dont see "water Pump" as an item that needs to be replaced/serviced. Is this something they might've missed? or is it not necessary to replace? On my old 98 Camry I know I had to, and I would assume to do the same for my 99 Solara. Can anyone here provide some advise? thanks guys!!

yeah this is a must... like the above posts says... since youre doing your timing belt, might as well do your water pump... you dont wanna let it leak or blow... trust me, you dont want to know the ramifications :oops:

dealers recommend to change at 60-70k but it would run up to 90k with no problems... SUMTIMES this is not the case... just to be sure im doing my timing belt and water pump at 80k

i think it is like gamble, you are taking a risk assume if you just change timing belt and not water pump, and if the water pump goes bad let said in the next couple of miles, then you have to re-invest the money on labor, taking out the timing belt in order to replace the water pump. on the other hand, maybe the water pump will last another 60k or 90k miles.

Rene, this is what I was talking about. I think this was after or before we spoke? I would change the WP just for precausions too.

Let me know what you find out with the price as I will follow your footstep when I reach your mileage. he he I got 54k
