what offset for 18" wheels?

what offset for 18" wheels?

Postby nkx1 » Mon Sep 09, 2002 5:43 pm

Well I am finally selling my '92 Integra, so I'll have some cash to buy the 18" wheels I'm looking at. One question though:

What offset should I get? Also, please post pics if possible along with the offset in the pics. :D

Thanks!

If the width is 8, then get 42mm offset.

If the width is 7.5, get 38-40mm offset.

Make sure you don't get 45mm. They will be too tucked in... Ugly..

Actually 40mm might be fine as well..

So what if you have to roll the fender?

The rims I got (Konig Tantrum 19 X 8 ) 8) only comes in 45mm offset..

I am planning on getting some 1/4 inch spacers for my rear... That should put the offset at about 40mm.

Hey Jay (or anyone else)-

I was thinking about these Kaotik wheels, but only come in an 18x7 in 42mm offset. Would these stick in too much because of the offset and the 7" width?

Here's the wheels:

Hi,

If wheels are tucked in too much, they will rub the springs, but 18X7 with 42 mm offset won't because it's not wide enough...

It will be about half inches tucked in more than 18X8 with 42mm.

To be exact:
7in/2 = 3.5 in.
3.5 in = 88.9mm.
88.9mm - 42mm= 46.9mm

8in/2 = 4in.
4 in = 101.6mm.
101.6mm - 42mm = 59.6mm

Besically 18 X 7 will stick out 46.9mm from the hub and 18 X 8 will stick out 59.6mm from the hub.

If you don't mind how factory rims are set up, I don't think you will have much problem with 18X7 with 42mm. They will be tucked in but not as much as the factory rims...

One solution is to get some wheel spacers. I recommend 1/4 inch spacers.
Good luck
Jay

i got some 18 by7.5 with an offset of 42. I thought i was well within the range. After the install of the lowering spring set...the tyres seems tucked in good, but the spacing btwn the fender is like minimal. Talk abt rolling the fenders, howdo i go abt doing that? can i do it myself or do i have to go to the shop. I also have a big ass heavy speaker box coz of the 2 ten inch polk audio momos subs which means the ride looks like its carrying a whole heap'a potatoes. Can i put a spacer to lift the car a little bit?

Nope, no such thing. If you want real height adjustment, you need to look at a real coilover system, otherwise you are out of luck with the sag you are getting.

Damn that sucks about the 18 X 7.5 w/ 42 offset not fitting. I guess I'm really going to have problems lowering with 18 x 8 w/ 40 offset. Oh well, maybe I'll have to shave the wheels to get a higher offset.

nkx1,

I think 18x7.5 w/ 42 offset should fit Solara.
