my gfs cousin has a double din and she got the cheap radio with a cassette player and a empty slot underneath

You can get a harness adapter..or hack the wires.

There could be a huge problem here though.

If you have the Factory JBL system, and the avalon doesn't, it will not work.

In the JBL system, the HU itself is just a control unit, the amplifier is external. If you tried to hook it up to speakers w/o the amp, it wouldn't work

They must both be either JBL or non JBL

?? I don't think thats possible. The amp for the JBL system on the solara is located behind the glovebox

I think some 99 models had the amp built in the headunit.
You need to take a look behind the headunit to see how much connectors there are. If there's one then it's the external amp, if there's two then the amp is built in.
