Carputers are the only way to go.

I'll need to ask them about the case. If anything barfs on my PC's I crack it open and fix it. I'd want the same access to the CarPC. But even removing the unit to swap out a busted HD would be quite the pain. Good point.
And hmmm... $3200 could buy a lot of custom PC. I just know that a home grown rig would be "in progress" forever. Always planning the next feature. Such decisions...

looking sweet. My only question is the reliability during the cold azz winters here. I would think that the cold weather would take a beating on the laptop. Also, do you mind the inconvienence of reaching under the passenger seat to put in a new cd or dvd to play? Or, do you just have an external dvd player connected to the monitor?

Out here in Vegas it only gets in the low 30’s but even in really cold places as soon as you get in the car you kick the heat on. As for a CD or DVD, what I do is Remote Desktop to the Laptop from my Desktop PC in the house and copy music and/or movies to the Laptop’s hard drive through the Remote Desktop connection. I have a 60GB hard drive with probably 300 albums on it in mp3 format. I have a few movies on there also but I really don’t watch them, they’re on it just to show other people the capabilities of the system. My wife says she’s getting me SIRIUS for X-Mas so I’ll be hooking that up also. Between the SIRIUS and the MP3 music you’ll never need to load a CD.

Check this out for Remote Desktop info:
