Amp and sub box help needed

Amp and sub box help needed

Postby black99 » Sat Apr 22, 2006 9:00 am

Hey fellas, I need some help. I bought 2 12" JL Audio W3v2's from a fellow SolaraGuy, solaraslev67. I need some help finding a good amp for them. They are 4 ohm's and push 300 watts RMS. I also need help finding/ building a box for them. I want to build the HO Wedge box they can come in, but I have no idea about the specs/ porting inside it. Do you guys have any good ideas for an amp/ box? Thanks in advance for the help.

Nice choice with subs, I vote get a box made. That'll be your cheapest route. I wish I had thought about cost before I decided to buy my W7's. Either way I know a couple of guys have had some work done by Marv http://community-2.webtv.net/MarvsPlace/MarvsPlace/. I was thinking of having him do some MDF rings for my rears. That may be an option for you unless you have the resources to make your own.

Also for amps and stuff http://www.woofersetc.com is a reputable source with good prices without having to risk eBay.

Good Luck

Keep the W3s and try to push as close to 500 RMS per sub as you can. Anything over 500 and your void the warranty....anything under and you are not doing the W3s justice.

Even with building a new box for the W3s and finding an amp you should be way under what it would cost to go the other route.

And building wise for a sealed box they require 1.125 ft3 (after displacement). If you don't want to follow JL's box design (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/11415.pdf) look at the top of this page for a ton of links: http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm

Good luck!
