Well it looks like it only has one 60 amp fuse, which isn't enough for a 1000 watt amp. I'd say it probably sucks.

so youre judging an amp based soley on its fuse rating to rms? then why does RE's amp bench 1508 watts when it has three 30 amp fuses?

get the hifonics amp. i hear the blue backlit logo looks amazing.

Hifonics makes good amp. At least the older original Hifonics. I can't say for sure on the new stuff.

Don't get it. I took a glimpse of the circuit board when a customer requested to have it wired up to his subs and it was VERY POORLY designed. Let's just say the circuit board does NOT maximize the entire case. He was disappointed at the at the subs' output, but since he didn't want to get something we sell, that's all he was left with.

What do you recommend Luc?

I browsed couple audio forums and they stay away from JL and recommend Hifonics.

They also like RF or MTX.

Wow, that's the first I have heard of recommending against JL!! Perhaps it's because of the price-to-power ratio difference. Well, I'm basing my call on what we sell at the store: JL, Kicker, Kenwood, Alpine, & Pioneer. RF & MTX used to be better, but that's not saying that they aren't good now. If you can get your hands on an old Xtant 1001dx, rectangular-shape only, that would be nice, or even the 601. :D

We haven't had any bad amps coming back, but rather blown subs; had a JL 500/1 pushing 2 12" Kicker L5s, and one of them was blown. Of course, it could've been user abuse, but the amp never gave up. I nstalled a Kicker 400.1 with 2 10" Comp VRs, and no problems either. It will come down to how much you want to spend. Of course, having another JL will nicely match the 500/5 if you ever put them side-by-side. ;)

You do pay a higher price for products like JL, Kicker, Alpine, etc., and our store isn't out to start a price war with BB or CC, thus, we don't necessarily carry the brand, or line, that they do.

It used to be called United Audio Centers, but now, it's Tweeter. The store I'm at used to be a Borders bookstore, but has been converted, off Harlem Ave. & Lake St. in River Forest, next to Oak Park.

I bet you will be missing the snow, right? ;)

Luc,

If I get JL 500/1, will each sub will get 500 watts or 250 watts each?

I really like the JBL amps. They run very cool and it feels like I'm getting more power than they claim to put out. They have great reviews from users.

Im all for MTX amps. Well, the series before the ones that just came out. They are really efficient and well designed. Older RF amps are also amazing. If you can find one of those... go for it.
