Installing Roady2 XM receiver

Hey all- okay, so, uh:

First, sorry I've been way from the forums like, forever. I've been weirdly busy.

Second: I just bought a Delphi Roady2 XM receiver, and the installation is creeping me out. Mostly, I'm worried about how to run the wire from the antenna (which will be on the roof) into the car. I'm kinda nervous about the going under weather-stripping, etc. Anyone with any experience/advice, I could use the help.

you'll be fine going under the window weather stripping. there are two ways i would run the antenna first is right above the rear view mirror on the front of the car. use a hook pic to push the wire down into the seal, make sure that the seal lays flat again. It's best to do this when the window isn't freezing cold. If you mount the antenna in the front of the car you will have to go through the door jamb in order to get the wire into the car, on trucks this looks fine because you will only see maybe a 1/2" of the wire but on a car this can get ugly.

What I would suggest is mounting it on the trunk lid, just run the wire to the underside of the trunk tuck it under the carpet, and be sure to secure it to the lid supports running down into the trunk. there will be enough wire to run it this way and it's not really any harder to install it this way.

well its been awhile since i installed it so bear with me. i got pics to help. ok first ur chillin with the xm unit and the antenna. well first u want to mount ur xm vent like so(u could mount it anywhere i jus chose this spot)



u then need to run the wires back through the dash and i hardwired the xm unit to my battery cuz i didnt want to have to take up a plug.



so after that ur chillin with the xm antenna. ur gonna wanna run this through the dash up to this spot like so for best xm reception. like this



i always get at least every bar but one but i usually get every single bar on reception so this spot is perfect. sry i couldnt go into full detail. hope this helps

you can do it that way, in fact i've had to do it that way before, I just think you get a cleaner install mounting on the outside of the vehicle, also you don't have to use velcro or tape or anything like that to keep it there. I know you're thinking well I could just shove it in the corner, but then the antenna will be under the black portion of the window and get worse reception.

I've never really liked the vent clips, they seem to slide around and depending on the vent it will let the unit fall forward at an akward viewing angle. If you have an aftermarket radio, just build a bracket off of the pocket.

yea it proly does get better reception but i think it looks ugly IMO. the vent hardly slides. not enough for me to care.

Since I just got one of these myself here's what I did. I used the vent mount and opened the ash tray and put the arms into the tray and closed the tray. Holds it just fine doesn't move at all. Ran the wire from the trunk to the dash and brought it in behind the ash tray so it doesn't show. Going to do the same with the cig lighter power cord but haven't yet.
Sorry no pictures but it works great and the unit pretty much hides the power cord since I'm using the extra outlet at the bottom.

word to the wise don't cut the plug off of those, you either need to buy another female plug to tie it in with or open the adapter and solder on new wires to tap on to the factory wires. Those plugs convert the 12 volts to 6 volts and 5 volts on the mifi's.

I didnt know so many people had the same thing.

I didnt want to F with the factory head unit I have so I just use the tape player that is already installed (my friend hard wired it, and I can't tell a differenct) I did used to use the radio reciever but b/c I travel so much that never worked out real well.

I have the antenna running underneath the stearing while which is a good place to hide the extra wire, then I ran the wire up and underneath the weather stripping. I think I am going to move the antenna to on top of the roof now b/c some you said that's what you did.

What about the antenna on the rear package tray? Between the 6x9's, way back in the crotch of the rear glass, kinda like where a 3rd brakelight would be. Straight shot to the sky, and I dont think the glass interferes with signal, even if tinted??? I DO NOT want an antenna outside the car when my Sirius tuner comes in.

if your tint has any metallic properties, like it's reflective or something then yes it will pose a problem. This is why you can't mount it on the rear deck of cars like mercedes, they have that kind of tint factory.

I dont have reflective tint so I should be ok. Will definately try it out before I tear into the back seat again.

Hey bassthrive have you tried to put your SIRIUS antennae on the read deck yet? I installed mine on the roof and boy is it ugly.
