Factory harness?

Postby Deion » Thu Nov 03, 2005 6:19 pm

My buddy just bought a 2001 Solara after seeing mine. They're pretty hard to find around here so he wanted to join us I guess. Anyways, he was removing his factory deck to install an Eclipse dvd/nav system. He never checked the factory system before he bought the car but when he removed it, we saw the factory harness was cut and he's missing the end of the harness.

Is the only place to get a replacement at the dealership so he can hookup the new deck?

could you be more specific? in solaras with the JBL option there are two harnesses with two plugs each, one set runs to the JBL amp behind the glovebox, the other is your standard issue toyota stock harness (white plugs, see link above). which ones were cut? was his factory system working when he bought it?

His must be really messed up. When he showed me, there was only 1 harness (20 pin) that plugs into the factory HU, then there was 2 antenna wires. Its the double din unit, on the front says Toyota 16815 if that means anything. There are 2 places to plug in a wire harness on the HU, but there was just the 1 harness that was there.

We took it to a shop today and they told us to pickup a Metra 70-8112 harness to connect to the amp behind the glovebox, but they said we have to fix the factory harness first then they can just plug in the Metra to the factory and it'll work.

Is there any other info you need? He never checked the radio when he picked up the car because on his test drive he wanted to hear the engine, but no the radio didn't work at all since he picked it up.

We were able to get into a shop right before they were closing. They said they have a factory harness, so they can fix the chop shop wires. But the harness they showed us was a 15 pin, the factory one he had was a 20 pin. Does anyone know what accessories he will lose if any? The guy at the shop said they wouldn't be sure until after they install the 15 pin.

if this shop is going through all this work then they are retarded. why wouldn't you just grab the speaker outputs on the amplifier. Tie into that harness and unplug the amp. They would have to test to make sure the speakers are 4 ohms. He's probably going to lose his factory subwoofer, but that should be it.
