PC controlled SIRIUS Install

Just finished up installing my SIRIUS tuner in my Solara and wanted to share some pics with the group. This tuner is actually controlled via a PC through its RS-232 port. You have to swap a circuit board in the tuner to get it to work. I ordered the circuit board from http://rush2112.net/
Here's a pic of the original tuner

Heres a pic after the circuit board swap

This is good!! I wanted to do the same thing with XM, but the issue is that the tuner boxes for the connectors are different. I heard its a 2 wire soldering job if you can find the right plugs and connectors.

Not sure if Sirius is any different, but for XM, you need to get a tuner, and then an adaptor for your headunit. It looks like theres two units you took pictures of below, so it seems that its the same deal. I was under the impression that you didnt need the adaptor unit if you are going to wire it into RS-232.

Any details on this? Its nice to have a someone to blaze the trails.

I'm not familiar with the XM interface so I dont quite know what you mean. I can tell you that there is no soldering for the SIRIUS interface. I took out 4 screws, removed the Alpine tuner board, put the new tuner board in, replaced 4 screws, done. You then need software on your PC that works with this paticular tuner. I use Roadrunner http://guino.home.insightbb.com/roadrunner.html

You set up Roadrunner to look on COM 1 (serial connection) then all is good.
Check out http://rush2112.net/ for more info. He's the one I purchased the new board from. He has a forum that you can find more info.
I may be getting one of these for the home also. One more thing, use the optical out audio connection on this device as the analog isnt that great.
