CD Player not reading CDS

CD Player not reading CDS

Postby elevashun » Fri Aug 18, 2006 11:27 pm

My stock CD player in my 2000 Solara stopped reading CD's all of a sudden.. When I put in a CD it seems like it attempts to read it, but ends up ejecting it out. Unfortunately it happened in the first hour of my 7 hour drive from Norcal to San Diego. I figure it has to do something with the lens.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Did it start skipping beforehand? Because when it skips when you pull into a stop (or even when you hit a bump/accelerate hard), that means a spring is worn out and you need a new unit.

This is acutally a common problem with the 1CD unit. Mine went out like 3 years ago. Its like it tries to read it, says ERR1, and then spits it out.

I think the single CD units on the original solara werent that well built. (2000 Anyways). I know in 99, they used a slightly different radio with bigger text that might be holding up better. I dont know if they kept the same radio from 2001 to 2003.

I had to swap mine out.

Could be dust on the lens. The older the car, the more likely that dust can get into the player. The environment that the car provides isn't the cleanest, and there's no way to completely seal the CD player up (or you wouldn't be able to get a CD in  ) The little felt pieces that close it up aren't perfect. You could have also had dust on a CD, and it could have gotten inside that way.

Has anyone tried one of those areosol computer dusters for a problem like this?
