Postby Patrik » Mon Jan 22, 2007 7:14 pm

is it safe to use aftermarker speakers with aftermarket radio, or is it a must to use an amp ?

i guess a low rms range speaker would do the trick ?

obviusly this is all about a money question since i dont have enough money for an amplifier but still want a nice quality sound system...

thanks for sharing your experiance

merci !

of course it's safe. In my old car, for a month, i used aftermarket speakers (Polk db650) with an aftermarket receiver (Apline CDA 9830), then I got an amplifier.

why did you think something would be wrong?

It has actually been proven as life threatening... should you persue this mission, i advise that you stay at least 15feet from your car at any time the aftermarket headunit is powering the aftermarket speakers directly.

Side note: It has also been proven that driving an aftermarket 12" subwoofer directly from the front right channel of an aftermarket headunit will actually improve your health, however doing the same with a factory headunit will have the exact opposite effect. Good luck

my type S components sounds like as.s because i still have stock head unit.. that will change soon.

If youre planning on running component with 50wrms or more i may suggest an amp. My homie told me he couldnt even install crossover cause jbl amp is 20w each channel and the crossover woulda sucked out so much power coming from stock amp that i would have barely heard any music at all. Other than that it wont damage anything at all...

Maybe my experience would help you out.

Changed stock speakers to 6.5 Alpine Type-R components=with stock deck and amp. Sounded horrible, too little power. You could start to hear distortion from the stock JBL amp trying its best, while the type-r's begged for more. (I had to fade the sound to the front to compensate for the power loss)

Added a 150w amp for front components with stock deck, sounded a lot better, but too much white noise and muddy sounding quality from stock deck. (btw, used a converter from speaker out to RCA for the amp)

Changed stock deck to an after market and used nothing but RCA outs. Sounded amazing. No more white noise, can get as loud as I want without distorting and can change every setting till it sounded perfect.

Hope that helps.

BTW, Added a sub before the deck and now its exactly as I want it to sound. Didnt add it to the chronological audio-time line as its not very related to the current topic of: speakers, amps and decks.

How did the Polk Audio speakers work for you?

I've never had the auto speakers - only pro audio and home theater products...

Thanks. ;)

the Polk's? They were my first set of aftermarket speaker, so I didn't really know what to compare it too. But when I did get them, I was impressed. Wayyyy better then the stock speaker. They were able to go loud w/o distortion, and the high's sound more crisp and clear.
