CD changer mounting

Postby aleath » Sat Mar 29, 2003 8:53 pm

I have had my cd changer in the left corner floor of my trunk for the past few months and its getting in the way. I want to instead mount it under the lip of my trunk as shown in this picture:

<img src="http://www.mailbreak.com/aleath/solara-cdmount.jpg">

Where the white arrow points to I am thinking I could drill into either side of the indentation as shown by the two red dots. Where the black arrow points I am thinking I can drill two holes for the right bracket. Only thing I am unsure of is if there are any wires that may run where I am drilling. Also, when I was putting the changer in different locations, I got too close to the magnet on the speaker and had the two come together. If I were to mount the CD changer as shown, I would still have about 1" between the back of the changer and the magnet. Would placing the CD changer that close to the speaker magnet affect it at all?

If anyone has a better place to put it I'm open to suggestions, but only in the trunk -- it's too big to fit inside the car.

What kind of changer do you have? If small enough, you can mount the changer under the passenger seat, as long as that isn't powered. That's what I did to a friend's '99 Solara with his Eclipse 8-disc. The magnet on the 6x9s isn't big enough to cause a magnetic-seismic shift (:lol:) on the changer, but will most likely skip if the bass is turned up on the rears. The other option is the vertically mount it on the left rear area inside the trunk, on the cardboard.

I have a JVC 12 disc changer -- CH-X470 . I've got a blitzsafe adapter so I can use it with my stock headunit and needless to say its confusing when I get to number 12 and see 2 :) . My drivers seat is powered and it won't fit under my passenger seat. It's also a bit too wide to completely fit flush against the left rear area of the trunk (about a 2" gap). Thats where I had it and am now thinking maybe I'll just put it back there and live with it.

Yeah, that changer is a bit big to fit under the seats. Under the rear deck would be optimum, since it doesn't interfere with anything. May be between the two speakers, but pushed back a bit, so you can still have a usable trunk light.

In my opinion you need to mount that thing under the rear deck and have it done by an installer. That way if anything does go wrong with your speakers (which I don't think will happen) then the install will be back by a guarantee. Most places usually charge about 50 bucks for a changer and they also do a much cleaner job.
