Which Head Unit??

Which Head Unit??

Postby speedgraphix » Tue May 06, 2003 8:59 am

Im looking for a head unit for my car, and looking for suggestions. Double dins are really expensive, and I dont have a need for a tape player, and I really dont see the point of me having an lcd, (how am i supposed to watch and drive???) but I would like something with mp3 playback, and something with high quality. In the past, Ive always had pioneers, and was wondering if there are any other brands or models that i should look into. Id appreciate the info!
thanks,
nicole

oh yea, i just remembered...

www.crutchfield.com

Choose your vehicle then eventually you'll see a "ASK OUR PRO" and they will recommend you a unit after you tell them what you'd like.

Of course, you don't buy it from them... just take the advice and shop shop shop! :D

i just copied my reply from another thread:

--
i just got the Pioneer DEH-P7400MP for 200 dollars and I love it. It is a great head unit. The only problems I have with it are a somewhat slower loading time with mp3s (not too bad) and naviation could be alittle easier/faster, but I guess i'm just used to my RioVolt portable mp3 cd player. My best bet is just running the cd on random and not messing with it.

also, I wouldn't recommend buying from crutchfield, way overpriced, look at ikesound.com

I have several buddies with Alpine headunits, which are nice. I have an 8-series Clarion that I am quite happy with. Eclipse makes a good quality product as well. I think it really depends on how much you want to spend. I mean Macintosh is pretty good if you have the money :).
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

every face on head units come with an LCD screen (liquid crystal display)..it's what displays the numbers. just a little tip in case you go shopping around saying that; people will be like, "huh??"

as for a recommendation, i used to like kenwood before, but now i really like the way the new pioneers and alpines are looking. you don't need to get a double din either to replace your stock oem. you can get a single din with a pocket.

I know what an lcd is.. i dont want like a 5" or 7" lcd though.. also.. about the whole single din with pocket.. i know about those too.. like i said, i dont want a double, (i have no need for the tape deck) so.. i was asking for suggestions for just a regular head unit... single din. thanks for the suggestions.. the one about asking the crutchfield pros was good advice!

I'm sure most people would think a large lcd display... seeing that most would know that the display is a "low tech" lcd itself.

I've been shopping around for a decent head unit for awhile and have found that the JVC units are quite nice and have a ton of features for a decent price. You may want to check out the KD-SH9700 or the KD-LH3100.
