Which amp?

Which amp?

Postby Jakecallun20 » Sat Jan 19, 2008 10:14 pm

Hey guys, My friend has this sub:
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/ ... _and_specs

And he asked me to find an amp for it. I cannot find anything that puts out 600 watts at 4 ohms. It needs to be a mono amp also. Am I missing something here?

The sub you are looking at has a PEAK of 600w. That means you risk blowing it with anymore watts, so you want to stay lower than 600.
Two of my favorite amps, Directed and Diamond Audio are high quality and high dollar to match and even they dont have 600w at 4ohms. Thats crazy power.

But here are my recommendations:
Directed:
http://www.directedxtreme.com/amplifiers/d2400.asp

Diamond Audio:
http://www.diamondaudio.com/content/view/88/91/

Either of these should be more than enough power to make your friend happy.
Good Luck!

You shouldn't be looking for a 600 watt amp, because your RMS power is only from 50 - 120 watts, so you should look for something with a RMS rating in that area. Different amps may say 600 watts peak power, but their actual RMS power may vary. Your best bet is to look for an amp with <120 watts of RMS power and >50 watts @ 4 ohms. It be easier to find an amp if you were using 2 of these subs, or better yet find a better sub...

Don't even pay attention to the peak power, that has nothing to do with your actual power. Peak power is the power drawn when your amp is first turned on, like the pop you might hear. Manufacturers are allowed to claim that power because there aren't any laws saying that can or can't. Technically, yes it does draw that much power, but it's like only for like .5 seconds, if that. If you notice, the major manufacturers are starting to become CEA compliant and are listing their amps at RMS power. For example, haven't you noticed that you'll come across 2 different amps from 2 different companies that both might say 500 watts of power, but 1 is 99.99 and the other is 499.99? That's because one is listed in peak and the other in RMS. So, when you look for products, only pay attention to the RMS rating!

Why the hell are you looking at 600 watt amps for??

You'll be buying new speakers in 2 seconds.
Peak is just a burp of sound.

I have a JL 250/1 up for sale that would be perfect for you, hit me up :)
