Basic Navigation Question for a Solara Dummy

Basic Navigation Question for a Solara Dummy

Postby Debbie » Thu Jan 31, 2008 1:13 pm

Hi guys..I'm new to the forum, and found this page when researching about navis. I have some really low level questions that probably a 5 year old could answer.

I have a 2007 Solara Coupe SE (no frills, except the pretty blizzard pearl color). I now want to get a touch screen navigation system, in dash, bluetooth, hopefully with a backup camera if I could afford it (budget is $1-2 K)

1. Can navigation systems be installed on my car model after purchase, particulary in-dash?
2. If so, is it standard feature that navigation speaks to you when giving directions, or is that a special feature you have to look for (I know really dumb question, and dumb way to articulate it)
3. Finally...assuming that a navigation could be installed in dash...what do you guys recommend?

I tried looking through other forums, but didn't really see my answer. thanks in advance.

3. theres alot of systems out there. Alpine D1, D3 , Eclipse , search Sound Domain. Theres also a few members that have navis installed here on Sg

Thank you everyone..now I have many different things I could start researching. I didn't even know where to begin before this.

i would prefer to buy factory, but I have no clue where to get that. I guess researching is always good.

First I would say you are in the wrong section...you should create your post in the Gen 2-2.5 navigation section for better answers ! ;)

I think it is a good place to get EOM stuff !

1. Yes i have an in-dash i installed myself (eclipse avn5510)
2.They will give you turn by turn, but more expensive ones give what is called text-to-speech , this feature the navi actually tells u the major street names and freeways (for example it would say merge onto i-10 west)
3. ive only used the one i have and i love it....its eclipse avn5510 has 7" screen.....i got bluetooth and backup navi for it...also with this it has a plug for toyota steering wheel controls so u dont need to buy anything seperate....i bought my stuff on ebay and so with those and misc parts i think i payed between $1000-$1100, and installed it myself which took some time lol

^^I agree, the Eclipse AVN5510 is a great navi system. I've also installed it, but on my 2000. Very user friendly. Plus, for the price, you can add on the extras - like the back-up camera, bluetooth, and iPOD for less than 2k.
