Sounds very good for stock speakers. Several of my friends thought I had a 10" in the back because it thumps pretty well.

I think toyota said it was a 200watt system with 8 speakers, not sure about that. It's really good for stock speakers, but after more than 3 years it popped last month and I replaced it with some kenwood speakers. Also got a kenwood mp3/cd head unit and 2 10" jbl subs powered by a kenwood 600w amp.

200 Watts

2 Tweeters (on doors)
2 Mids (on doors)
2 "bass" and 2 tweeter (on rear deck)

that's how it's "8 speakers in 6 locations"
1GR-FE ftw!

It sounds great from the factory and it will sound even better if you upgrade your headunit. They handle the extra power with no problem at all.

With the stock speakers and headunit, I added a sub and amp and it sounds sweet! The JBL speakers handle the power very well.

I agree...the JBL system is excellent. The only drawback is that it can't play MP3s. Has anyone out there been able to use the existing JBL system to play MP3s using some aftermarket accessories? I know that you can simply replace the head unit with one that can play MP3s, but I personally think that aftermarket head units don't look as good as the factory units. The aftermarket units are usually much smaller in size, so you wind up with a lot of plastic moulding to cover up the opening. If anyone has a good solution out there, please share!

Yes, the SE V6 does have the JBL system, but you have to get it as an upgrade. I have a 2000 SE V6 with the optional JBL system.

You can always get a double din head unit, but I don't think any of them can play mp3s, and there are the ones that can flip down to cover some of the plastic, like the kenwood KDC-MP822.

You could also get a cd player for one slot and an equilizer for the other. Or an LCD screen or something.

Just get a pocket and put the cd player remote inside.

JBL system is great for an OEM unit. It was also an option upgrade on SE models.
