Im getting the Alpine V12 MRD-M300. is it better to use the alpine 12" 2ohm or 4ohm Type R subwoofer with it? They're both rated at 300w RMS and the amp is at 300w x 1 2ohm 14.4v. im just wondering if i should get the 2 ohm 12" sub or the 4ohm 12" sub.

NO!

it will handle more than 300w rms, but it's not recommended. it's rated at 300w rms for a reason... i'm sure you can send it 1000w rms for a tenth of a second and it won't bust, get the idea? anyway, alpine subs aren't that underrated...

anyway, the amp is a mono amp and i'm pretty sure the subs are dvc subs, so do not get the 2ohm model, get the 4ohm model (wire vcs in parallel = 2ohm final impedance)

Correct. The subs see 4 ohms, but the amp sees a 2ohm load.

actually the type R's are pretty inefficient and can take a good bit more than what they are rated at if you know what you are doing
